Maria Porges
Maria Porges employed a transfer process to replicate the ribbon-like central image in a suite of monotypes entitled History Lesson. In doing so, Porges constructed a visual lexicon with this heraldic form. During her residency at Aurobora, Porges ran monochromatic flats that were washed out and articulated with mineral spirits to create an atmospheric backdrop to her compositions. She then digitally altered and transferred banner forms over these areas, placing them in specific arrangements so that the imagery appears ready to float off from the surface of the paper.
